Inspirational brand

Besides Kissing the Frog, as Sooshin always says, as designers we know that its not just about taking every opportunity to become a great designer. Its also about the acronym KISS, Keep It Simple Stupid. For the GAP keeping to the basics, with a refined and classic aesthetic is what supports this company on top and a fashion staple for just about everyone, no matter what your personal style. I feel like its the closet American design company that truly relates to Scandinavian design roots. In short, I want my design philosophy to be like a White oxford, classic at its roots, can be worn with jeans or dress pants, made from US grown cotton, and never inappropriate after labor day.

Advice on Designing a Portfolio

Portfolios can make you, or break you. Hours, days, and months of work can be misunderstood, under represented, and completely blown off if your portfolio doesn't properly showcase your work. In my experience of looking over others portfolios has been that a clean font, very distinct and simple grid (that is followed), and of course a good personality and feel for the actual person.

I have only a small amount of advice to build a great portfolio, but thats because I have only made 1.5 portfolios, and I really think its horrible. I hope that by listing the three pieces of advice, I may be able to keep them in mind to do my next one!

A new quarter, a new type of post.

Today is an introduction, to me as a designer, and outlining my goals for this quarter.

I have known that I wanted to be in design from a very young age. I actually have a letter, written by myself to myself, from the Eight grade, that listed Industrial Design as the Profession that I wanted to pursue, and DAAP as the school that I wanted to attend.

My design experience has so far been limited toward just Toys, while I worked at Hasbro, but my interests span much further than that. I have a great affinity for the outdoors, like sporting equipment, camping gear, and highly functional clothing.

My goals this quarter are three fold and getting a Job for winter Co-Op is on the top of that list. I also want to hone and refine my portfolio so that it makes me want to sent it to every one, with out fear of my work being criticized over things other than the intellectual concepts. and Finally I want to refine my sketches, this to me is one of the most important skills that a designer holds, above and apart from any other discipline in a company, and is the single greatest tool for communicating ideas.
