Good Design 2

If only modern day cell phones were this easy to operate. What happened to this type of product mapping? just because we can do everything on a digital touch screen doesn't mean we have to sacrifice intuitive UI's.

Good Design

Good design is Honest, clean, and understandable. Can't get any easier than that, but yet we as designers can make it so difficult sometimes, on ourselves and others. Yes a Lotus Elise, with cars getting new built in gadgets faster than light, its surprising these things don't fly yet. But the lotus is Honest, with A/C being an option only introduced a few years back this thing doesn't have all the frills of todays sports cars, its pure. Even with the super charged version, I bet even the novice of car savvy people could trouble shoot and tinker with this clean and understandable engine.

Mixed Media

I love these three images because I feel they give a good breadth into the realm of mixed media, the first being more stylized, and the last being closer to a real life render. Each have ties to the real world, while also conveying a looser, more imaginative center.

Post Project: Info Graphic

I think my biggest weakness is never feeling like I have done enough with a render, or that I have not put enough detail over all. This is a great example of that. I wasn't done with my render for the crit on Thursday which i really regret. But at the safe time i am proud of my self for doing all the work in the render myself. Not all but i feel a few other people used Mike Rollers files as more than a "spring board", but hey maybe thats smart. They got there projects done om time, i also fight with what is plagiarism and what is flattery, maybe i should take notes from my class mates. I also ended up drawing 15 pages on stupid info graphic design instead of the ear-buds them selves. Doesn't make for a cool sketch page at all. Enjoy!

Open Season

I have talked with Noel G. many times about were i believe that I will end up in the iD field in years to come and i would like to share.

I think that there are two sides in the spectrum in the field of iD. The first is the ultimate in form, beauty, emotion, and pure sex appeal, and that would be styling. being able to manipulate form at its very foundation to persuade an individuals feelings about a product, mo matter what it is, is so powerful for some.

On the other hand you have the tinkerer, a Leonardo D. if you will. Some one that is more interested in the ability to problem solve and to process the unwritten and unspoken words of others to complete rational conclusions about the human condition and create solutions for even the smallest of problems. This is the inventor. They are more concerned with how they are solving the problem and not just what its going to look like.

With this said, I feel as though most people land more towards the area of Styling. Which is great because cars are at the epitome of style and emotion. But that may not be what we need in everyday life. Under the gies of problem solving at school, i feel as though the first four years are overwhelmingly focused on the form factor of products.

I feel as though i lean more toward the Inventor side of things. in my journals and thoughts lie ideas of simple machines, solving common everyday problems, and really letting problems, and solutions for that matter, come to me. it isn't the best in the format in the school, but I hope that my portfolio will be able to reflect that.

Inspiration: Uber Designer

I think it would be a tragedy not to mention a designer in fashion for very strong visualization skills. Many different designers come to mind, like Alexander McQueen, John Galliano, the list goes on, but one of my favorites is Hussien Chalayan. Fashion is all about visuals, and this little example of his work is very informative to what his goals as a designer are and how his visual presentation matches that.

Info Design

The first thing to say about these two examples are givens for what is hoped to be said about all info-graphics, that in information is easily understood from just a glance. But if you want to get deeper into the knowledge you can. There is much to be said about telling the information you want with out words, but even more powerful are the metaphors one can insinuate from a visceral stand point.

Review my goals

Begining of the quarter goals

"My goals this quarter are three fold and getting a Job for winter Co-Op is on the top of that list. I also want to hone and refine my portfolio so that it makes me want to sent it to every one, with out fear of my work being criticized over things other than the intellectual concepts. and Finally I want to refine my sketches, this to me is one of the most important skills that a designer holds, above and apart from any other discipline in a company, and is the single greatest tool for communicating ideas."

1. Getting a Co-Op. Done! I am going to work with a friend and more importantly a great Mentor, though he may not realize it yet! I have a Job with David Parrot at Stress Engineering up in Mason Ohio! Best part about it is that its seriously 5 minutes from my house!

2. I am really digging my portfolio right now, even more than when I made my first a few years back, I have refined the ideas, presented them into a clear and concise format. But most importantly I have something to be proud of, and a portfolio that I can send out to potential clients and employees!

3. This quarter we really didn't focus too much on sketching, and thats okay, I learned so much from all the other types of projects we did this quarter, this quarter really helped out with my portfolio but not with sketch's. I am okay with that though, because by now I am confident that I can practice on my own over the break and hone those skills too.

Two out of three, not bad!

Film: Monsters

Its dark, barely lit are the actors and actresses. Only the smallest bits of information is visible, creating an environment for your mind to connect, and search for the rest. Deeply intriguing and mysterious, with subtle hints of whats to come, and really makes you want to see the rest!
